THE ANCHORAGE, HANDSWORTH WOOD, BIRMINGHAM
The Anchorage was designed in 1899 by Crouch and Butler and is listed grade II* as one of the best surviving Arts and Crafts houses in Birmingham. The windows feature leaded lights, some of them with stained glass by Mary Newill, and there are painted friezes in the Great Hall by Fred Davis, both key figures in the
Arts and Crafts movement in the city.
The new owner commissioned Oliver Architecture to obtain consent for improvements to the thermal performance of the windows as well as essential repairs.
We also designed new entrance gates and fencing to improve security.
