STONEYWELL, LEICESTERSHIRE
A summer home within the Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire, this is a building of major architectural importance within the history
of the Arts and Crafts Movement. It was designed by the celebrated architect and furniture designer Ernest Gimson (1864-1919) and built
by the wandering-architect Detmar Blow (1867-1939) in 1897-9, one of a small number of cottages nearby for the Gimson family.
It remained in family ownership until it was acquired by the National Trust in 2012.
Stephen Oliver acted as architect for the Trust prior to acquisition, and has carried out quinquennial inspections.
He was architect for the conversion of the Stables to provide visitor facilities.
