CHURCH OF ST. MARY AND ST. DAVID, KILPECK, HEREFORDSHIRE
Kikpeck church was erected c.1134-40 and is famous for its extraordinarily well-preserved Romanesque sculpture to the south door, corbels and arch reveals. The church was restored in 1848 by Lewis Cottingham, in 1864 when the south porch was removed, and in 1962-64 when it would appear the interior was replastered in a hard modern plaster. The church is listed grade I.
Stephen Oliver was appointed church architect in 2020. A Quinquennial Inspection was carried out in 2021 and a programme of urgent repairs prepared soon afterwards. This aims at dealing with the ongoing leaks through inadequate flashings, as well as removing hard cement mortars and plasters which are exacerbating damp issues.
