We are specialists in the field of conservation architecture, dedicated to the thoughtful repair, adaptation, and celebration of historic buildings and places. Based in Birmingham, we operate across the country, caring for important historic structures and their settings, with particular interest in ecclesiastical architecture. Our portfolio spans cathedrals and churches, listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments, heritage-led regeneration, and historic houses.

The Role
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Part 1 Architectural Assistant to join our team in June 2025. This role offers the opportunity to work across all RIBA stages, contributing to projects that combine innovative design with technical precision and historical sensitivity. You will gain hands-on experience in site surveys, heritage research, and the production of drawings.
We welcome applications from individuals with a strong interest in the historic environment, traditional materials, and sustainable design. Proficiency in CAD software (Vectorworks preferred) and Adobe Creative Suite is desirable, and a willingness to learn and collaborate is essential. Part I Job Description

Duties and responsibilities
  • Creating high quality drawings using Vectorworks.
  • Assist and undertake site surveys and visits.
  • Assisting in ensuring that all project-related communications are undertaken, including attending meetings, site inspections, drafting minutes, and compiling reports, etc. Following up site meetings with site inspection notes (as well as any other relevant documentation) and issuing these in a timely manner to clients and the project team.
  • Preparation and development of presentation documents producing reports in InDesign and Word.
  • Assist in the production of 2D and 3D drawing and models.
  • Researching appropriate products, materials etc.
  • Assisting with historical research to feed into heritage planning documents
  • Attending in-house and external CPD sessions in order to develop own knowledge and meet RIBA requirements
 
Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Have achieved RIBA Part 1 and have a demonstrable interest in conservation and historic buildings
  • Be proficient in managing your workload to achieve tight deadlines
  • Be practical, reliable and punctual
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and a problem solver
  • Awareness of the technical standards, competencies, regulatory frameworks and health and safety requirements guiding architects.
 
Qualifications
BA or BSc in Architecture from a RIBA recognised university / architectural school.
