ALREWAS, ESSEX REGIMENT MEMORIAL
A new memorial to The Essex Regiment was unveiled on the 13th July 2014. An obelisk in Portland stone, with inscriptions on the base, it is topped by a gilded bronze eagle, created by Ian Rank-Broadley. This emulates the Imperial Eagle that was captured at the Battle of Salamanca by the 44th Regiment in 1812. The memorial is located within the grounds of the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.
