A Cistercian monastery, Dore Abbey was founded by Robert Fitz Harold of Ewyas about 1147 and the main complex of buildings was erected between the mid-12th century and 1210. After falling into ruins after the Reformation, the church was restored in 1633 for John Viscount Scudemore. The church is a Grade I listed building and remains in use today.
